Quick Post on a Stormy Evening

Although Saturday was a hectic day, I was able to make it to Knitting Sisters for the Anniversary!

It's always nice to be greeted by name, by smiling faces. With the day I was having, the warm greeting was even more appreciated than normal.

There was sparkling apple cider, cake, cookies, and drawings for prizes every hour. I arrived about an hour before closing and they actually let me pull the name for the winner of the last prize, which was a sweater's worth of yarn!

While there, I picked up a Knitting Sisters tote bag, which I am happily carrying to work every day now.

Hope to post again soon.

Knitting Sisters

My favorite yarn shop is turning 3! Hooray for Knitting Sisters!

With a little luck, I'll get a chance to pop into the store to celebrate. Here's a little info about events and classes for September. http://www.knittingsisters.com/ClassSchedule2.htm

I'm still feeling kind of crappy and I have a laundry list of things to do BUT I really want to make it there, even if only for a few minutes.

I was thinking about picking up a little Koigu to knit a pair of socks for my husband. We're celebrating ten years of marriage and I thought this might be something else nice I could do for him.

If you are in Williamsburg, today or any day other than Sunday, it's worth the time to visit.

Caps and Dishcloths

I finished the basketweave dischcloth and have started on Yvonne's Double Flower Dishcloth since my mom said that she would like a few of them. I am still enjoying the portability but something about knitting them just isn't as enjoyable for me as other items.

For the sake of charity, portability, practicality, and also my enjoyment, I have decided to contribute to Caps to the Capital. More info found HERE in PDF format. Knitting Sisters is collecting hats now through December 10 to send to Washington DC. Check out the cause and see other ways you can help in addtion to/instead of knitting/crocheting a cap.

I also forgot that I had volunteered to knit an item for a silent auction. Looks like I need to decide on a pattern and get started on that too. I'll be contacting the people in charge of the charity tomorrow for more details so that hopefully I can get a better idea of what they can use.

I hadn't planned to post pictures of the dischcloths but I've changed my mind. I should have pictures of dishcloths and caps up soon.

Our yard is still quite wet from Ernesto. Our electical power came back on Friday afternoon, our phones came back on Saturday, our cable came back on yesterday and our internet service came back this evening. I was fortunate enough to be able to visit with someone who did not lose any of their services over the course of the weekend which made things much easier. Although we had power on Friday night, the water was still too high.

Today, there are fewer and fewer signs that Ernesto was here. Hoping he's the last big storm of the season, considering meteorologists didn't really classify Ernesto as a really big storm.

Ernesto

Ernesto has come through and really surprised me. We got a little information on the news that there would be some rain but I don't feel like I was really sufficiently warned for what we got. Maybe I didn't watch enough of the reports.

We were still really lucky. We only lost power for about 8 hours or so and the rising waters didn't make it inside of our house.

Hopefully all the water will be gone tomorrow.

Some For someone who thinks about knitting as much as I do, one would think there would be a lot of knitting done at my house. The contrary, however, is the truth.

The time I used to use for knitting, I've instead been working out. Although I've lost quite a few pounds, I have missed knitting.

I decided to knit something I never thought I would: discloths / coasters / mug rugs / doilies.

I started an apple one Wednesday. I knit a few rows whenever I found spare moments. It really helped with the stress I've been feeling. Once I finished the apple cloth, I started one in basket-weave.

Now, don't get me wrong. I'm not excited about these items. I'm just happy to knit something that is extremely portable and also if I make an error on it, I really don't mind ripping it out or just chucking the project all together.

I also want to play with stitch patterns and techniques so the cloths are a nice option for me. I honestly never thought I would knit them. I reconsidered after another knitter gave me a couple of knit dishcloths to try. I did like them better than store-bought cloths but still couldn't get excited about knitting them. At least now I understand the motivation.

I plan to start my Flower Basket Shawl soon. I haven't decided whether it will be before or after I finish the Wonderful Wallaby. (I'm still debating about ripping the Wallaby and starting over.) Right now, I just need a stress reliever and something as simple as a cloth/coaster fits the bill right now.

There's still the matter of knitting the blanket for my husband. Statistically speaking, I need to get started on that by the endo of the month if I want to finish it before the year ends.

Hoping to coordinate things so life is more manageable and I have time to do more things I enjoy.
